The Zaro family can trace its roots in Slovenia’s Istria peninsula back to 1348. While we can assume that some amount of wine was produced for local consumption over the centuries, in more recent years, their agricultural holdings have increased to over 20 hectares, planted to both grape vines and olive trees. Zaro focuses their wine growing on regionally specific grapes like Malvasia (Malvazija), Refosk, and Negratenera, as well as international varieties like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
This particular Malvazija is something a little special, as it sees 8 days of skin maceration before pressing. This process lends the wine some tannin-acid structure, and an herbaceous, tea-like aroma to complement its peachy vibrancy. It's a delicious, and slightly daring wine.
