This is one of our latest discoveries from the Marche region of Italy. Domenico d’Angelo works the vineyards and crafts the wines at this small estate. His wines have frequently been awarded the highest honor of tre bicchieri (three glasses) by the prestigious Gambero Rosso wine magazine. This crisp white is delightful. Minerally and stony in approach, notes of citrus also rise from the glass. Passerina is known by another name in the region, biancello. We were first introduced to this grape a few years ago and it quickly became a favorite white. The reason: these wines are so easy drinking and versatile. Drink this with spring salads, and with shellfish quickly cooked to briney perfection or with sautéed chicken.

Rowan's Creek Straight Kentucky Bourbon This bourbon is produced by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, who makes a litany of exceptional whiskeys in Bardstown. The bourbon takes its name from the creek running through the distillery property. The creek was named for a respected judge, John Rowan, who settled in the area in the 1700's. The whiskey is aged in new, charred oak barrels for 12 years; the law requires just 2 years. The nose, an alluring mix of vanilla, caramel and spice, seems to evolve with time in the glass, revealing nuances with each sniff. One characteristic we love about Rowan's Creek is the lack of syrupy sweetness in the mouth. Rather, it is bold and spicy with woody notes dancing about. Bottled at 100° proof, this bourbon is best sipped with a bit of water or ice to open the aromatics and flavors. Or why not prepare our Whiskey Smash to celebrate the season.		COCKTAIL RECIPE: WHISKEY SMASH This cocktail was created by Dale DeGroff, a mentor of Audrey Saunders of Pegu Club. DeGroff is one of the reigning patriarchs of the mixology world, having created cocktail programs like The Rainbow Room when is was in its heyday and training a slew of today's star bartenders. DeGroff is also the author of The Craft of the Cocktail, a staple for any home mixologist. The Rowan's Creek bourbon, with its higher proof, is perfect in this drink. It brings a depth and complexity while teasing out the mint and lemon. We urge you to try this as we think this could become a standard summertime tipple along with your gin & tonic. 2 lemon pieces from a lemon halved and quartered 4 to 5 mint leaves ¾ oz simple syrup 1 oz water 1½ oz Rowan's Creek Bourbon Sprig of fresh mint In a mixing glass, muddle the lemon, mint, simple syrup and water. Press gently but firmly to release the oils rather than pulverize the mint or lemon. Add the bourbon; stir or shake and strain into a chilled old-fashioned style glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with the mint sprig.
