Portugal, Please!

This week, we’re taking a trip to Portugal and you’re coming with us! And by that, we mean that we’re pouring three wines from Portugal in our best attempt at transcending the space-time continuum and we would adore your company. The sun’s recent flirtation has us dreaming of warmer days and saltwater breezes and that calls for a glass of vinho verde. Or a skin-contact moscatel. Or a glass of palhete. Maybe all three? Well, you tell us which is the best of the three.

Portugal continues to be one of our favorite places to source wines that are consistently priced-to-play and overdeliver in terms of quality and overall yum factor. Historically, Portuguese winemaking has certainly seen its trials and tribulations. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Portuguese wine was in high demand, especially because the supply of French wine to England and Scotland was so threatened by revolution and various wars. But then the 20th century came around and the demand for Portuguese wine basically evaporated to nothing. Weird how the world works, huh? Portugal became associated with port and cheap, happy-hour vinho verde, and that was that.

Anyway, in recent decades, Portugal has re-entered the chat, improving their viticultural and winemaking practices to such a point that their reputation has been almost wholly restored. We’re excited to get your opinion - do we owe Portugal an apology or what?
