Labors of Love

Monday marks the first day of September and with it comes the cultural end of summer. The white linen and seersucker are packed away, replaced by corduroy and flannel, until the earth is once again warmed by the sun's glow next spring. Beyond the acknowledgment of seasonal transitions, it also signifies the celebration of Labor Day, a day that is meant to honor the American labor movement and the contributions of laborers to the growth and development of our society.

But what exactly constitutes labor? While we focus on defining labor as an expression of physicality, more broadly speaking, labor is a combination of the physical, emotional and spiritual self, oftentimes subtle and unseen. The invisibility of labor, as expressed in its many forms, can lead to minimization, depreciation, and deep misunderstanding. Oftentimes, we focus on the end result of labor, idealizing the final product rather than honoring the process and people whose work propelled that product into existence.

We've been gently mulling this idea over in our heads: wine is a product of personhood and therefore cannot be divorced from labor and its movements. When we champion small, independent producers who are committed to thoughtful and intentional land stewardship, we are also advocating for the very real human hands picking the grapes and bottling their histories, cultures, trials, tribulations, and wishes and worries for the future. We aid in their storytelling and cultural preservation every time we pop that cork and pour their essence into our chosen vessel. From grape to glass, human hands and hearts invested in our pleasure and pursuit of joy. We are incredibly blessed and lucky to tell these stories and connect these dots.

Support farmers. Support local small businesses. Support your local ecosystems.

We promise that support will be poured back into you. In the meantime, we'll pour the juice.
