Onward to Germany (with a pit stop in Austria)!

We are moving right along with our exploration of classic wine producing countries of Europe, with this week focusing on Germany (and sort of Austria)!

With a long history of winemaking, Germany's viticultural origin story is linked to the Romans, who introduced the vine to the Mosel and later to the Rhine some 2,000 years ago over the course of their conquests north of the Alps. Over time, wine became embedded in Germanic culture, with Charlemagne regulating viticulture, viniculture, and wine commerce and later monastic orders becoming centers of wine culture. Arguably, wine was the drink of the Middle Ages. The 19th century was the golden era of German wine, as wines from the Mosel and Rhine were favorites of royalty, held in higher esteem than even the wines of Champagne and Bordeaux. After the devastation of phylloxera, World War I, and World War II, German vintners persevered, and a German winemaking renaissance ensued that continues to evolve in real time.

This week, we're super excited to be opening some German classics and new-wave cult favorites. We would love your company.
