Bodegas Breca was founded in 2010 by Jorge Ordóñez, and is nestled in the quiet town of Munébrega in Aragón, the northeastern corner of Spain. The slate and quartz soils of this part of Calatayud have been home to the earliest plantings of garnacha (the ancient, genetically unaltered clone Garnacha de Aragón), since medieval times. From there it was transplanted across the Mediterranean throughout the other territories of the Kingdom of Aragón. This 100% Garnacha de Aragón is hand harvested from old mountain vineyards planted between 1945 and 1985, spontaneously fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks. After undergoing malolactic fermentation, the wine is briefly aged in concrete and stainless steel to soften the tannins. Deep ruby in color, layers of black cherry, currant, cassis, licorice, and eucalyptus unfold across the nose and palate, before finishing with hints of spice and tarragon. Organically grown.
