A collaborative project of four winemakers, Ca’Liptra makes a series of wines from old vines planted in old soils. The area of San Michele, in the heart of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi denomination, boasts ancient soils high in limestone and gypsum. The partners farm their five hectares, split between seven parcels all in the same area, all organically, using no fertilizer and working only the top few centimeters of the topsoil. Their ‘Arancio’ (Italian for ‘orange’) is a blend of 70% Malvasia Toscana/Malvasia Romagnola, 27% Trebbiano Toscano, and 3% Sangiovese, co-harvested at full ripeness and co-fermented in stainless steel. After two or three weeks of skin maceration, it aged in concrete vats. With aromatics of orange peel and rose water, this is a textural skin-contact blend of delightful depth. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
