Xavier Cailleau and his wife Géraldine are stewards of a very old winegrowing property: Some of their vines are over 125 years old, though the history of the domaine goes back to the year 1219. In his personal journey with winemaking on his family’s vineyards over the past three decades, Xavier has found success in bringing out the unique qualities of the site through organic and biodynamic farming practices, as well as a respectfully hands-off approach in the cellar. Taking advantage of the diversity of soil types present in the Anjou region also allows the château’s wines to express a range of profiles. This ‘BB’ Anjou rouge, from soils of limestone and clay, presents a serious and structured kind of cabernet franc at an everyday kind of price. Fermented in stainless steel, it aged mostly in steel as well, with 20% in neutral barrique. Brambly blueberry and blackberry offer a darker, less “green” expression of the Loire’s most famous red grape. Deliciously elegant! Certified organic, certified biodynamic.
