The formation of Chateau La Pointe dates to the middle of the 19th century. The estate found the inspiration for its name due to the unusual, triangular shape of their Pomerol vineyards. Pomerol is the smallest appellation in Bordeaux, so most of the estates in Pomerol are quite small. That is not the case with Chateau La Pointe, which is the third largest property in the Pomerol area with 23 hectares. Unfortunately, many details of La Pointe’s history are unknown. What we do know is that, thanks to the Directoire-style country house, it was one of the first two estates in Pomerol entitled to call themselves a “Château” in 1868. Now advised by Hubert de Bouard, it has been modernized and is considered green and energy efficient. This 2018 is composed of 74% merlot, 26% cabernet franc. Gentle notes of violets and tobacco frame a dense palate of red and blue berries, with freshness on the finish that promises a great future, should you decide to age this wine further.
