The family estate of Clos Fornelli sits on Corsica’s eastern edge, just above the coastal town of Aleria on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Owner Josée Vanucci and her husband, Fabrice Couloumère, organically farm 18 ha of classic Corsican grape varietals in the deep, rocky alluvial soils of the Bravone River, with vine age ranging between 25-35 years old. The neighboring Castagniccia mountain range provides plenty of cooling night air, which combined with the moderating influence of the sea, create a unique cooler microclimate, resulting in wines with distinctive freshness and aromatics. Fermentations take place with wild yeast in tank, lasting about three weeks, after which malolactic fermentation occurs, before 7-10 months of aging in concrete vats. Wines are bottled with minimal sulfur added. Made from the traditional Corsican sciaccarellu grape, this lithe, lively red is elegant and easy-going, with a nose of under ripe red plum, crushed violets, and gravel, followed by a spicy, juicy palate bursting with bright red berries and pomegranate. Vibrant acidity balances a plush texture for a wonderfully food friendly quaff! Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine.
