Where Food Meets Its Match: Drink with acidic dishes to help enhance the wine’s fruitfulness; salty dishes will help enhance the wine’s weight and body on the palate.

Established in 2002, the ‘hamlet on the slope’ Contra Soarda is Mirco and Gloria Gottardi’s attempt to honor their native land while crafting wines of purpose and intentionality. The 12 hectares of olive trees and vines are protected by the imposing mountains which provide strong diurnal shifts between day and night. The vines are purposely planted densely on volcanic soils to ensure naturally low yields. As for the cellar, it was carved into the hillside to minimize its environmental impact. Vespaiolo, a grape grown mainly in Veneto, has historically been associated with sweet wine production, capable of producing passito-style nectars balanced by searing acidity. This bottle however, highlights the grapes’ shapeshifting ability. Bright acidity and streaks of salinity offer austerity on the palate, rounded out by soft florality and a lush fruitfulness. A white wine everyone can adore: easy, breezy, beautiful.
