The Kühn estate has been a landmark of German winemaking for over 230 years and 11 generations. The 20 hectare estate is situated in the Rheingau on the right bank of the Rhine river, and is now helmed by Peter Bernhard, along with his wife Viktoria, his parents Peter Jakob and Angela, and his sister Sandra. The family continues their historical commitment to respecting long standing traditions while embracing modern viticultural approaches, and in 2004 decided to achieve organic and biodynamic certification. ‘Quarzit’ is made from riesling hand harvested from vines between 7 and 56 years old, grown on gravel, clay, and - as the name implies - quartzite soils, and fermented spontaneously with ambient yeasts in stainless steel and large oak barrels. Deeply golden-hued, this stunning dry riesling unfurls generous, concentrated layers of luscious apricot, zesty citrus, and a defined, smoky minerality across a textured palate held atop a highwire of tension. Organically grown, certified biodynamic, low-intervention/natural wine.
