MORE ON THIS WINE
Frank Cornelissen has carved a unique niche in Sicilian winemaking, crafting a distinctive range of terroir-driven, low-intervention wines while acquiring a cult following along the way. A hardcore proponent of natural winemaking, he farms his 19 hectares on the slopes of Mt. Etna in a completely minimalist manner, viewing even biodynamic viticulture as “interventionist.” ‘Susucaru’ rosato is composed of hand harvested malvasia, moscadella, catarratto, and nerello mascalese that were destemmed and then gently pressed. Fermenting spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, the grapes see 10 days of maceration in epoxy tanks. Sticking fully to the bit, Cornelissen chooses not to add any additional sulfites to his wine and it remains unfined. With aromas that might melt your face off, this wine is not for the faint of heart nor for the classicists. An unapologetically dank nose pivots sharply to a surprisingly clean, juicy palate with a savory, crunchy, edginess that adds extra padding to this patio pounder. Counterculture kool-aid. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
