Domaine Christophe Mittnacht 'Gyotaku Terres d'étoiles' Alsace AOC 2022

Long champions of soil and ecosystem health, the Mittnacht family has grown grapes in the shadow of the fortified church of Hunawihr for generations. In 1999, the vineyards earned biodynamic certification. Twenty years later, the holdings were split in two, with Christophe Mittnacht and his wife Yuka taking half of the territory for the newly founded Domaine Christophe Mittnacht “Terres d’étoiles.” From their excellent vineyard sites come beautifully expressive wines made from a range of Alsatian white varieties, as well as pinot noir. This ‘Gyotaku’ blend is designed to be paired with sushi, though don’t feel obligated in that regard. Its complexity and textural palate would go well with a range of dishes. It ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages in large old foudres. Tropical fruit and spiced pear are cut by a persistent, lip-smacking citrus.
