Domaine Paul Cherrier Sancerre AOC 2022

Just northwest of Sancerre proper, in the bucolic village of Verdigny, the energetic Stéphane Cherrier has been working quietly in the vineyards to undo decades of synthetic chemical treatments applied by previous generations, hand harvesting and earning praise for his elegant, focused wines. An immediately passionate guy, he farms 13 hectares of perfectly situated hilltop vines—10 planted to sauvignon blanc and three planted to pinot noir—organically, in soils predominantly of Kimmeridgian limestone, which lend structure and focus to his petite range. Fermented and aged entirely in tank, this is an honest and straightforward yet unabashedly delicious expression of Sancerre, with crisp minerality punctuated by notes of white peach and fresh lemon. Easy to pair with just about any light fare, it’s also easy to love all on its own. Organically grown, low intervention/natural wine.
