In the words of Kirk Sutherland, “I started Erde Wines in 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic and unprecedented wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest time to start a new business, but here we are… After having worked several harvests in Oregon, learning the ropes from my friends at Division Winemaking Company and Day Wines, I figured it was time to press my luck and try making a little wine for myself. I wanted to start with modest beginnings, producing about 250 cases of wine and cider, sourced from thoughtfully farmed vineyards and an untouched orchard. With these bottlings, I hope to create something unexpected, yet approachable, but most importantly delicious. Very gently, Kirk, we think you nailed it. ‘Iceblink Luck’ is the perfect introduction to the Erde ethos. Composed of organically grown grenache, the grapes experience 11 days of whole cluster spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and full malolactic conversion. Aged for 6 months in barrel, this wine is unfined and unfiltered, with no added SO2. In essence, it’s a pure expression of party fun: think strawberry Twizzlers accompanied by a splash of white cranberry juice and a bite of savory white pepper. With a bit of tannic edge, this wine is tightly coiled at first with lots of room to open and evolve. Pair with pasta primavera or gossip with your crew. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
