MORE ON THIS WINE

Fox Run Vineyards - “Drink wine, be happy.” We couldn’t agree more! Life should be so simple. Located in Seneca Lake, the estate was a dairy farm for over a century before grapes were planted in 1984. Founders Larry and Adele Wildrick transformed the original Civil War-era dairy barn into a winemaking facility in 1990. Fast forward to 1994 and the Wildricks sold Fox Run to Scott Osborn and Andy Hale. The estate has now amassed 50 acres of east-facing vineyard sites on glacial soils, producing a range of wines that are quintessential expressions of New York - confident without being bragadocious. In 2012, Scott and Ruth Osborn entered into partnership with Ruth’s sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Albert Zafonte to make Fox Run exclusively family-owned. The family’s mission is to reduce their environmental impact while producing intentional, almost formulaic, bottles of estate grown fruit. Certified sustainable by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation in 2023, the estate is dry farmed and uses integrated pest management methods to monitor harmful insect populations, with mycorrhizae fungi introduced to the root systems to increase their size and increase water and nutrient retention. Rye grass is planted in between rows of vines to enhance soil vigor and prevent erosion. They even have a bottle crusher to turn glass bottles into sand, diverting them from local landfills! And did we mention the monarch butterfly and bee sanctuary? C’mon. Winemaker Craig Hosbach is laser-focused in the cellar - the wines are complete, balanced, and unpretentious. This sparkling chardonnay could be called New York Champagne, (we would not correct you) with a gorgeous mousse and expressive fruit balanced by crisp acidity. Ideal for celebrations or a bucket of fried chicken. Certified sustainable.
