Gros Ventre Cellars was founded in 2009 by Chris and Sarah Pittinger. Former sommelier Chris began making rather than just tasting wine in 2003 and worked at several distinguished wineries including Torbreck, Williams-Selyem, and Marcassin, and is now the full time winemaker for Skinner Vineyards in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Gros Ventre works with growers dedicated to sustainable viticulture (the vast majority farm organically or biodynamically) in locations including El Dorado, Clarksburg, Central Coast, and the West Sonoma Coast, and vinifies those grapes with minimal intervention. Native yeast is used to spark fermentation, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration and with minimal sulfur added. The 2021 rosé is a blend of 52% valdiguié and 48% gamay noir, and is bursting with stewed strawberry, fleshy apricot, cherry, and blood orange flavors that finish smooth and dry with a hint of crushed herbs. Sustainably grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
