This Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Rouge from Hoffman-Jayer comes from one hectare of 60 year old pinot noir planted on the lieux-dits of En Foigery and Les Castaings in Magny-lès-Villers. After harvest the fruit sees a cold soak prior to spontaneous fermentation in cement tank. The wine then spends 18 months aging in a combination of ⅔ large barrels (20% new oak) and ⅓ terracotta jars before being bottled without filtration. 2017 is a fantastic vintage, displaying bright acidity and layers of juicy red fruit including ripe cherries and currants. Savory underpinnings of roast meat and coffee accompany defined streaks of minerality with a mouth filling texture midpalate. A long, satisfying finish and elegant tannins complete a sophisticated sip that deftly balances concentration and lift. An excellent value for this appellation as well! Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
