The Korsič family vineyards are located in the northeastern-most part of Italy, adjacent to the Slovenian border, and have been farmed by the family for several generations. Here, nested in the hilltop village of San Floriano, the winery overlooks the Alps to the north and the rolling hills of Collio to the south, and benefits from the climate-moderating influence of the mountains as well as the Adriatic Sea. This malvasia is grown on the unique ‘ponca’ (marl and sandstone) soils unique to Collio, which impart a distinctive salinity and minerality to the region’s wines. It is fermented at controlled temperatures for 14 days, then aged in stainless steel for six months. Complex and richly textured, it offers intriguing notes of kiwi, jasmine, and palo santo on the nose, followed by layers of prickly pear, pineapple skin, and hints of Brazil nuts on the palate and lingering finish. It all adds up to a spicy, savory sipper that pairs spectacularly with briny seafood and richer veggie dishes. Sustainably grown.
