Les Chais du Port de la Lune is punk as heck. Radically contrarian when juxtaposed with the classicisms of Bordeaux’s old guard, this negoce project is helmed by Laurent Bordes and is housed in a converted World War II bunker. Only 600 bottles were produced of this ‘cellar mix’ of organic and biodynamic red and white grapes sourced from Bordeaux and its surroundings. Grapes are macerated for one week in stainless steel and barrel and then aged for 6 months in barrel. Unfined and unfiltered, the wine is a lesson in purity and focused intentionality. Cerebral and meditative, it certainly matches the energy of the ‘Port of the Moon,’ encapsulating a sense of whimsy and cheeky playfulness grounded in quiet confidence. The fruit is concentrated and generous, accented by bright acidity and plush tannins. Versatile and approachable, it’s Bordeaux for the people, classicists be darned. Organically grown, biodynamically grown, vegan.
