Not only do Vincent and Aurélie Garreta grow and make deliciously fresh wines, they take care of their harvest workers as well. They publish a “labor facts” label (resembling the nutrition facts label on food products) that outlines how many people worked on the vintage and for how many hours a day. The routine doesn’t sound too bad: a mid-morning pâté break, lunch in the field, and grape stomping in the afternoon. The winery is located in the Vaucluse, not far from the village of Gordes; their grapes grow on the limestone slopes of the Monts de Vaucluse. This light, wonderfully fruity cuvée is made mostly of old-vine cinsaut (they prefer the old spelling, sans L), with a touch of grenache to ground the whole thing. After a semi-carbonic fermentation process, the wine ages for up to three months in stainless steel or resin tanks and is bottled without any fining or filtration. Bright, ripe strawberry bounces over the palate with a touch of herbs and earth. Perfect all by itself, slightly chilled, or served with a sunset over mountains. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
