It’s not clear whether the village of Baudana is named after the family of that name, or the other way around. In any case, the winery of Luigi Baudana draws on a long connection between family and terroir. Located just up the road to the north of the 14th-century castle of Serralunga, in the eastern part of the Barolo zone, Baudana farms only four hectares. Though now in partnership with the well-regarded Barolo house G.D. Vajra, they continue to operate as a small winery that draws on the unique geography and climate of their part of Piedmont. Structured and powerful, this 2019 is drinking well, though it will also age beautifully over the next several years. Organically grown.
