A far cry from the simple sippers often associated with Vinho Verde, this alvarinho is a complex, serious quaff! Quinta Cova da Raposa (Fox Den Farm) is a small organic farm nestled in the heart of Braga, Minho. Founded in 1997 by Manuel Taxa and Elisabete Raposo, the estate has always sought to preserve the biodiversity and ecological balance throughout the vineyards and farm, and utilizes organic and biodynamic methods, becoming one of the first certified organic estates in Portugal. In addition to the grapevines planted on terraced granite hills, they raise nearly three dozen kinds of vegetables and fruits, herbs, aloe vera, honey bees, and local breeds of chickens, rabbits, and sheep. This alvarinho is vinified in stainless steel with indigenous yeast and bottled without fining, filtration, or the addition of sulfur. Classic in character, it exudes mouthwateringly brisk acidity, with lots of zesty citrus accented by floral flourishes, and a cool, stony finish with hints of almond and petrol. Fans of Rías Baíxas albariño or Muscadet will find lots to love here! Certified organic, biodynamically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
