The Priorat region in northeastern Spain consists of nine villages, each with their own distinct character, but all expressing the trademark depth and power the wines of the area are famed for. The village of Escaladei sits right in the heart of Priorat, and produces some of the most robust wines of the area. ‘Black Slate’ was inspired by the Burgundian concept of village nomenclature. Grapes came from vineyards located close to the village, planted at high elevations on the renowned llicorella (black slate) soils. Classic Priorat intensity but with plenty of lift and freshness.
