Spirits Lab 'North River' Rye 750ml

The newest addition to the Hudson Valley’s craft distilling scene, Spirits Lab Distilling Company is located in Newburgh, NY, across from General Washington’s Revolutionary War headquarters. Spirits Lab uses New York State grains and botanicals to produce small batch craft spirits and bottled cocktails. Their North River Rye is a traditionally made whiskey that pays tribute to the glory days of rye, historically the preeminent whiskey in the northeastern US. (Sorry bourbon, but rye is arguably the quintessential American whiskey!) Rye made its mark in the northeast thanks to its tolerance for cooler, wetter weather than is ideal for grains like barley and wheat, and was the drink of choice until Prohibition brought it all crashing to a halt. Now part of the burgeoning rye renaissance, North River Rye is distilled in the Hudson Valley from 95% New York rye and 5% malted barley, and aged for five years in 53 gallon Independent Stave Company Cooper’s Select oak barrels. It boasts a spicy, peppery kick with a grainy, grassy texture, and plenty of robust rye and malted barley flavors.
