MORE ON THIS WINE
A moment of keeping it real: there’s not a whole heck of a lot of information on this wine out there. And sometimes that makes it feel all the more special. Like a little secret between us and a place far far away. A wink and a smile, if you will. Winemaker Beka Jimsheladze took over his family’s small winery and has been producing incredible expressions of indigenous Georgian varietals on their humble 2 hectares of land. Working organically and utilizing the traditional Georgian method of skin-contact fermentation and aging in qvevri buried underground, he is quietly but profoundly championing the wines of his ancestors and bringing them to the international market. In 2015, Vellino released their first vintage for consumers and boy howdy we are so grateful they did. This mtsvane is a wild ride - floral and fruitful and dank and grippy all at once. A whisper of oat straw and wet hay slowly transforms into slightly oversteeped black tea with bergamot, apricot, and dried pineapple. A subtle brininess like castelvetrano juice alongside the almost brandy-like texture make this an elevated pickleback shot for the ages. Nurse accordingly.
