Sometimes the treasure you’re looking for is right under your nose! That’s the story of Weingut Roterfaden, the estate of Hannes Hoffmann and Olympia Samara. The small village of Rosswag is situated just northwest of Stuttgart and is quite a unique viticultural site, surrounded by an ancient amphitheater of steeply planted vines. Sadly for the area, the qualities that make such prized winegrowing sites also make those sites incredibly expensive to farm, requiring most of the work to be done by hand. Bowing under the financial pressures and changes in the wine industry, many younger people have left the area to live and work in big cities, leaving the local cooperative to farm nearly 99% of these distinguished vineyards. Enter Hannes and Olympia - or rather, re-enter Hannes - Rosswag happens to be his hometown. After traveling and working around the world, Hannes and Olympia found the perfect place to establish their own estate was actually back home in Rosswag! There they biodynamically farm 4 ha of lemberger, pinot noir, and riesling on steeply terraced limestone vineyards, doing all work by hand (native yeast fermentations, aging in old barrels, and bottling without fining or filtration.) They are the only other estate apart from the coop farming these vineyards. This rosé is 100% certified biodynamic lemberger (blaufränkisch) made via saignée method, and matured in barrel. Cool blue and purple fruit notes meet elegant layers of bright rose hips accented with hints of wild herbs and crushed thyme. Vibrant and a touch savory on the palate, this lower ABV rosé is the ultimate in warm weather refreshment! Organically grown, biodynamically grown, low-intervention/natural wine.
